Hello and welcome!
I'm glad you dropped by the site.
My name is Carina and I am excited to share my brand of arts empowerment facilitation and creative community building with you. Now, more than ever, knowing how to work with one's creativity is a life skill. It's not the luxury, I once believed it to be, it's a necessity in my personal, creative and professional life, and perhaps, in yours too.
So far, I've found self-expression has given me more awareness and a way through some of life's toughest twists and turns. Creativity has been for me both a good friend and a hobgoblin. When I've paid attention, I could delight in its gifts; but when I wasn't fully available to it, creativity found ways to call attention to herself. It did so like a child, often and with insistence! And so it should be.
The practices I offer don't require a lifetime of experience, merely curiosity and the willingness to take a small creative risk in a welcoming environment which I create with you. What I love about these practices is how we can surprise ourselves, daily and "uncover our own be-longing " (1). There is joy in that alone, aswell as in the possibilities, great and small, which can be awakened or pointed toward as a result.
I am often asked "What makes this type of facilitation experience "creative"? Frankly, I asked myself, because no one else was asking me at the time!
Here's what I found so far. The experience is creative firstly because you get to choose all the way through the process. You make up your experience as you go along and also contribute to the group's shared experience. Secondly, this type of workshop uses expressive arts as the catalyst or vehicle to help elicit expressions of self.
Expressive arts focus on the experience or the process of personal meaning-making rather than focusing on the end results.
The expressive arts can then include, but are not limited to: group rhythm making, visual arts (drawing with oil pastels), music (toning, singing together, making sound together), drama (elements of improv), writing (elements of story, poetry), sometimes guided meditation/visualization/metaphor). Ideally all these puzzle pieces flow in to and out of one another.
Making marks on paper, emitting sounds in the air, sculpting my body into an expressive shape meets me where I'm at on any given day. This and more, offers me a variety of opportunities which can speak to different learning/expressive styles as well as to my and your physical/emotional availability levels on any given day. There really is no wrong way to engage here and no art making experience is needed. The workshops are designed according to theme, group size, time allotment and adjusted as we go. I look forward to sharing this experience with you.
Here again is my micro blurb:
I am a creative facilitator, artist, photographer, poet, graphic designer, coach, communications advisor and proud Mama to my four year old son.
The engagement practices I offer extend to youth, adults, the community at large and groups that serve our community.
