Thanks to support from my community, I learned that there was much enthusiam for the work I am am offering. Therefore, I will be attending the first ever PYE Social Artist Festival-North America Region - a festival for people who use art for social change. It takes place on Whidbey Island, August 20th to 25th, I look forward to bringing fresh learning home to the koots and the Columbia Basin.
I just attended the "Who Resides Inside Of You? Art Therapy Workshop" at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute (KATI). It was hosted by Rossana Manzano Mateos, Masters thesis Student and Supervised by Instructor Nicole LeBihan. The workshop explored the use of music, movement and paint as language of the body and it was, for me, a transformative journey.
For anyone who hasn't tried it or feels the call, I say it was worth it for me. The power of sound-scapes, when one is ripe to receive them, I found is a great shortcut to embodiment and expression deep into the layers of my being. I felt as though I had allowed myself to travel on a vision quest, a hero's/heroin's journey to find a possible future, a past at peace and above all a more centered right now... and the ability, from time to time, to march, spin, cower or stand perfectly still to the beat of my own drum.
